Peer Team Student Tutor (PTST)

With a view to train the slow learners to take up in the forthcoming semester examinations, rank holders from each department are engaged. Counselling and guidance are given to the slow learners to reappear for the arrear papers. The Peer Team Student Tutor (PTST) classes were conducted for all the major students in the respective departments every Monday and Wednesday between 6.30 pm and 8.00 pm.

About Village Adoption Programme:

        A unique feature of the college is VAP. The college has adopted six villages in and around Sholavandan and runs eight centers and a selected group of sixty motivated and trained students go to the respective adopted village every Friday. They used to take tuition cum cultural classes for rural children for two hours. What is learnt at Gurukulam is being transferred to the village children. Nearly 500 to 600 children are benefited under this scheme.

History of Vedic Maths

Vedic maths is a system of mathematics that was discovered by an Indian mathematician, Jagadguru Shri Bharathi Krishna Tirthaji (1893 – 1961) during A.D. 1911 and 1918. Earlier he was called as Venkataraman, born at Tirunulveli, TamilNadu (State). He received many awards in his school life like “Saraswati” award for his excellence in Sanskrit by Mumbai Sanskrit Association at the age of 14. He had high knowledge in many fields. He received MA degree in seven discipline (like Sanskrit, Philosophy, Astronomy, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Vedas). He printed his findings in a Vedic Mathematics book – Tirthaji Maharaj. Vedic mathematics is also called mental mathematics in the mathematical world. We can say that the brain’s capacity and its speed of calculations increases fivefold with the practice of Vedic maths.

Vedic Maths or Vedic Mathematics is also called mental mathematics in the mathematical world. We can say that the brain’s capacity and its speed of calculations increases fivefold with the practice of Vedic maths. It is a collection of Methods or Sutras to solve numerical computations quickly and faster. It consists of 16 Sutras called Formulae and 13 sub-sutras called Sub Formulae, which can be applied to the solving of problems in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, conics, etc. All the sutras and sub sutras of Vedic maths help to perform mathematical operations quickly and accurately.

Vedic Maths @ Vivekananda College
Dr. V. S. Narasimhan (1972 – 1996), formerly Vice Principal and Head of the department contributed Vedic Mathematics @ our department in his whole service for the student’s community. Next, Mr. R. Jayalaban (1980 – 2013), formerly Vice Principal and Head of the department carried over this Vedic Maths to his period of service by organizing workshops every year. In their periods, our students had come as resource persons and they come across all over the world. For the past four decades, our department is acting as the Mentor in the field of Vedic Maths for the southern India.

Students Cultural Camp

In order to promote, propagate and purify the minds of the younger blood, a camp on imparting the Indian Heritage and Culture is conducted every year during the month of May. The participants for the camp are the students from 6th to 10th standard of various schools from Tamilnadu. Devotional and patriotic lyrics, moral stories, parables, physical jerks, yoga asanans, life history of freedom fighters and preaching from Indian epics i.e., Ramayana and Mahabharata are taught to the participants. A flavour of life training through emphasis on overall development of activities related to hand, heart and head as envisioned by Swami Vivekananda is given through this cultural camp.

2015 The culture training c amp for the students of 6th to 10th std was organized at our college from 1st to 10th May 2015. 54 students from various districts of Tamilnadu participated.

About the Naren IAS Academy

With a view to give Counselling and Guidance to the students to take up the competitive examinations conducted by RRB, SSC, UPSC, TNPSC, etc., at regional and national levels, Naren IAS Academy was inaugurated in Vivekananda College on 25.01.2010 by Thiru S.Ramanathan, IFS (Retd.), Former UN Advisor, Chairman, Azhagai Rajam Ramanathan Memorial Trust, Madurai. The orientation classes on civil services and other competitive examinations will be conducted every year in the beginning of academic year for all the first year students. An entrance examination will be conducted for selection of candidates for Naren IAS Academy every year. Based on the marks obtained in the entrance examination, studentswill be selected for special coaching on civil services and other competitive examinations. Classes will be conducted on every Friday between 4.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. The Naren IAS Academy Library is functioning in Ganapthi Building for the students who are preparing for the competitive examinations. The Library is kept open all the days during 8.30 a.m. – 9.30 a.m. in the morning and 4.30 p.m. – 5.30 p.m. in the evening. The Annual Naren Quiz Contest will be conducted at the end of every academic year. It is an Inter-departmental Quiz Competition conducted based on the marks obtained in the entrance examination conducted by the Academy. Dr.K.Karthikeyan, Associate Professor and Head, PG and Research Department of Commerce is the Coordinator of the Academy. The Annual Naren Quiz Contest is conducted every year by Dr.K.Karthikeyan, Coordinator. The Naren IAS Academy is also conducting Online Quiz on Current Affairs and English Grammar every week on Monday. About Consumer Club

The Consumer Club of Vivekananda College is an initiative taken to enhance awareness amongst the student community about the rights and responsibilities of a consumer. It was inaugurated on August. 02, 2008. Right from its inception the club has conducted several outreach programmes, consumer awareness demonstrations, guest lectures, training of trainers and competitions etc., During the academic year 2009 – 2010. Students from Commerce and other department are the members of the club. To highlight the importance of consumer rights, National consumer day is celebrated on December 24th every year across India, and world consumer day is celebrated on March 15th across the world Field visits to villages.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan

Vivekananda College, Tiruvedakam West has been selected as  Participating Institution (PI) under  Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), a flagship programme of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
The mission of UBA is to enable participating higher educational institutions to work with people of rural India in identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions which will contribute towards sustainable growth of the partner communities.

Objective

To orient the students about the UBA Village Survey and Household survey motivate them to participate in the same.

Brief Description

On 28..10.21,02.11.21, 07.12.21, 08.12.21 and 10.12.21 an in-depth orientation was conducted more than 50 third year students on UBA survey. During the session the students were oriented about the Survey and various projects related to UBA and the initiatives undertaken by the college as a Participating Institute by Dr.C.Vadivel (UBA Coordinator). They were also encouraged to participate in such activities and contribute their bit in rural development by utilizing their skills and enhancing the same in process.

Introduction

We have framed the policy guidelines on innovation and startups with aims at enabling to rationalise and strengthen the innovation and entrepreneurial activities at the Vivekananda College. The Institution Innovation Council of Vivekananda College (IIC) formed under the guidelines of MHRD dedicated to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among its research oriented faculty members and students as a non-profit unit. This policy provides guidelines on how the entrepreneurship culture and innovation spirit shall be encouraged among the students and faculty of Vivekananda College. The policy will support Vivekananda College in achieving its mission of creating industry-ready professionals with requisite skill sets, a sense of social and moral responsibility and the ability to address contemporary problems with innovative solutions and emerging as an Institute of Excellence known for research, teaching and practice by encouraging the stream of innovation.

General Knowledge Previous Year Question Papers

    General Knowledge (Under Part VI) classes are conducted in our Gurukulam every Saturday from 7.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. to all students, covering subjects like Mathematics (Numerical Ability), Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Computer Science, Economics and Commerce, History, Tamil, Sports, Current Affairs and Test of Reasoning. It is useful to student community to participate in the Competitive Examinations and to develop their career. Many students with fruitful result have joined in Government services like TNPSC, RRB, UPSC, Bank Exams, etc.,.
