College History
According to Swami Vivekananda, Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man. The very essence of education is concentration of mind and not collecting of facts. The education, which does not help the common man or people to equip themselves for the struggles in life, which does not bring out strength of character, a spirit of philanthropy and the courage of a lion, is not real education. Real education should be man-making, character-building and assimilation of ideas.
Discipline is the need of the hour. It may be too late if we fail to realize it now. The amorphous mind of the growing boy or girl would flower into something rich and strong if placed in the proper atmosphere. It is exactly this proper atmosphere, which we find lacking in the sphere of higher education. ‘Who teaches? It is the atmosphere’ this is the observation of a great educationist.
The unprecedented success of the residential school for boys at Tirupparaitturai near Trichy started by the Tapovanam for the purpose gave rise to the hope of success at the collegiate level also.
Our College came into existence in June 1971 in response to this educational necessity and hope. This College was started in June 1971 by the above Tapovanam and affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University with a prophetic vision and a clear foresight in order to provide quality education to the talented youths of backward classes hailing from rural areas. It is intended for men only. It is located in ideal rural surroundings amidst bounteous natural scenery all round on the northern bank of the river Vaigai. The institution has a firm conviction in the concept of Swami Vivekananda that education is a man making endeavour. Hence, the spiritual aspect of education is given due weightage and value based education is made a reality in the campus. By shaping and moulding the Students on the right direction by a team of committed teachers, the college has carved a niche for itself in the realm of higher education in the southern part of Tamil Nadu. Life-training has been the part and parcel of our curriculum right from the inception of the institution and it got its official academic authenticity under autonomy in June 1987. Our curriculum contributes towards the country’s constructive development in countless ways. In tune with the proven principle that quality improvement in his leads to the economic development of a nation, our three faceted curriculum strengthens the realm of knowledge, skill imparting techniques and value inculcating components leading to a healthy and all round academic completion.
